In the years 1980-81 the level of 7 elements were determined in the blood and milk of 17 Thoroughbred mares and in the blood serum and hair of their foals up to the age of 18 months. During this period the levels of calcium, sodium, potassium and copper in the blood serum of the mares increased and that of magnesium and zinc decreased. In the course of lactation the content of all elements, except sodium, in milk decreased. In the blood serum of foals from 1 to 18 months of life a marked increase of sodium and copper contents was observed
