[Organic matter decomposition in the fraxino-quercetum forest association in the South Moravia (Czechoslovakia)]
1986
Sarman, J. (Uniw. Rolniczy, Brno (Czechoslovakia))
The breakdown of the leaves and wood of ash-trees and oaks was studied at three forest sites differing in soil moisture level. As the weight of the decomposing materials decreased the ash and nitrogen contents increased and the carbon content decreased. It was noteworthy that the calorific value of the decomposed materials increased as compared to the pre-decomposition value. The rate of decomposition was influenced by soil moisture, leaves undergoing decomposition more rapidly at higher moisture levels and the reverse being true of wood
