Swine placenta accumulates Mn, Cr and Pb. Mn content decreases with the pregnancy, while Cr concentration increases. Placental content of Pb is elevated in the first half of pregnancy and afterwards is reduced. All the elements penetrate easily the placental barrier, accumulate in foetal organs and as a consequence their concentration in the second half of pregnancy is higher in foetuses than in mothers
