Insecticidal control of sweet potato weevils (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) [Cyclas formicarius elegantulus and Euscepes postfasciatus] in Hawaii

Six insecticides (Carbofuran, Carbaryl, Endosulphan, Acephate, Permethrin and Methyl parathion) applied at different dosages and pre-plant/post-plant spray combinations were evaluated in field trials for three seasons for control of the sweet-potato weevils Cylas formicarius elegantulus (Summers) and Euscepes postfasciatus (Fairmaire). Except for the second season where carbaryl applied as a pre-plant dip (3.33 ml a.i. per litre) and sprayed at 3-week intervals was significantly superior to the other treatments, there were no significant differences between effectiveness of the different insecticides
