Twenty-six acres of peanuts need to be cultivated to satisfy the local demand for raw peanuts (21,000 lbs/annum in 1981). A further 62 acres would substitute for the 69,636 lbs/annum processed peanuts imported. A potential export market also exists as CARICOM imports 6,000 tonnes of peanuts annually. Government will have to regulate the importation of peanuts to protect local farmers
