Effect of variety on yield, quality and chemical composition of sugarbeet

The investigation involved variety differences of 30 sugar beet varieties. More pronounced variations were observed in the yields of above-ground organs than in the yields of roots. The difference in quality, i.e. sugar content, were lower in the roots. Phenotype and technological variety properties significantly effected the biological sugar yield, with considerable influences exerted by the root mass, crop density and polarization. The quantity of biological sugar mainly depended upon the average root mass, crop density and polarization. The sugar beet mass was in a positive correlation with the above-ground organs' mass and in a negative correlation with the crop density. Generally, the quantity of macroelements varied to a greater degree in the root than in the leaf, whereas the differences in the microelement contents were higher or equal in both parts of the plant.
