Equal phytomass yields were obtained by sowing lucerne (Medicago sativa) as a monoculture, and mixed with (Dactylis glomerata, in a plain region. Similar yields were also obtained by sowing lucerne and Dactylis glomerata in the same and alternative rows. In the case of alternative rows, lucerne accounted for a greater share in the plant layer composition. The content of raw proteins in the phytomass of mixed lucerne and Dactylis glomerata sown in alternative rows was significantly higher as compared to the phytomass obtained by sowing in the same rows, whereas there were no differences with respect to raw cellulose and extractive matters. The phytomass contained lower amounts of raw proteins and higher amounts of extractive matters than in the case of lucerne monoculture.
