[Sowing quality and ZPSC-704 maize hybrid yield in production condition in dependence on planter and sizing of seed]

Best results were obtained with a pneumatic drill and sized seed (stand - 49,200 plants/ha; yield - 8,180 kg/ha). Poorest results were obtained with a mechanical drill and nonsized seed (stand - 39,856 plants/ha; average yield -6,538 kg/ha). The results obtained with a mechanical drill and calibrated seed and a pneumatic drill and nonsized seed were similar, the latter combination being somewhat more advantageous. The achieved stands were lower by 11.78 -40.0% than the optimum stand for the maize hybrid ZPSC-704. The study was conducted in a region along the Danube River in Yugoslavia, in 1983, an unfavorable year for maize growing in the examined region.
