Studies of the reinfection of replanted cacao (Theobroma cacao) by cacao swollen shoot virus in Ghana

Investigation of the circumstances leading to re-infection of replanted cacao by cacao swollen virus (CSSV), a major cacao rehabilitation problem in the Eastern and Ashanti Regions (Ghana) is reported. The planting material includes virus-resistant inter-Amazon and Amelonado hybrids. The greatest number of infections occurred during the 4th and 5th year of planting after the plants have made canopy contact. Over 50% of infected trees occurred in the outer periphery of the plot.
