1983
Dei-Tutu, J. (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Accra (Ghana). Food Research Inst.)
The agricultural and agro-based industrial potential which could be used for the transformation of the Volta Region of Ghana are highlighted. With the geographical location, human and natural resources, the region is suitable for the cultivation of all possible crops both for export and local consumption, that can be grown in Ghana, as well as livestock farming. This provides the basis for the development of a strong rural industrial complex based on renewable agricultural inputs. Industrial processing of the agricultural products and byproducts (food, non-food and livestock) are reviewed, and the problems facing agro-based industries and the strategies that should be adopted for their establishment in the region are also discussed
