Nitrate reductase activity in leaves as a measure for the appraisal of nitrogen requirements of crops

During the 1975-78 period pot experiments were established and nitrate reductase activity was determined in leaves of tomato and corn plants. The results obtained indicate that nitrate reductase activity assay in leaves has no advantage over total nitrogen determination in them. The relationships obtained showed that nitrate reductase activity in comparison to total nitrogen determination in some cases meet but to a lower degree and in others not the basic principles of conventional leaf analysis.
