Evaluation of 10 large seeded chickpea varieties based on their seed yield and adaptability

In an experimental network established during the period 1974-1978 in six regions of Greece and including 15 experiments, the performance of 10 large seeded chickpea varieties for seed yield and adaptability, was studied, in spring sowing. Using the average seed yield of the varieties and applying the principles of the Finlay and Wilkinson method to estimate their adaptability it was found that: The M-10768 variety has general adaptability and gives high seed yields. On the average it yielded 32 % more than the chickpea variety M-10544 which yielded about 203 Kg/1000 sqm. This superiority was statistica1292lly significant. The M-10518 variety showed specific adaptability and is suitable only for favorable environments. No differences in seed yield was observed between the remained large seeded varieties and M-1
