Phosphorus content of cervico-vaginal mucus as an index of heat and early pregnancy

Samples were collected from 38 Jersey cows during early, mid and late heat stages of oestrus and first to eighth week of non-oestrous phase and early pregnancy. The total P content of genital secretions showed an increasing trend in the pregnant group; in the non-pregnant group this trend was noticed up to second week, third week constant and declined thereafter indicating recurrence of heat in these animals. The dry matter was lowest during ovulatory phase and increased with advancement of cycle. Since the increasing dry matter was the function of decreasing oestrogen and increasing progesterone, probably like dry matter, the total P was a0972lso regulated by ovarian horm
