The effectiveness of selection in the F2 generation of 994 crosses of bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) was studied. There was a weak association between grain yield and harvest index in F2. Heritability of these traits was very low. Selection for high grain yield and high harvest index in F2 was ineffective
