Maternal effect on serum glucose, proteins and lactic dehydrogenase activity in the F1 chicken of reciprocal cross between dwarf and non-dwarf parents

The present paper reports on differences in some blood reports on differences in some blood biochemical attributes of the halfsibs obtained by reciprocal crossing of normal and dwarf parents. The dw allele was introduced from a White Leghorn population and the source of broiler type inheritance was from a synthetic line. Dwarf and the non-dwarf pullets were artificially inseminated. Four different genotypes were obtained, heterozygous dw+dw sons from normal and dwarf dams, hemizygous normal daughters from dwarf dams, and dwarf daughters from normal dams. Heterozygous cockerels with the sex-linked recessive dwarfing gene inheritance from dwarf dams had significantly higher serum1536glucose values as compared to heterozygous cockerels from the normal, whereas pullets from the dwarf dams were normal and those from the normal dams were dwarf. The significantly higher LDH activity in the pullets with the sex-linked dwarfing gene inheritance from the dwarf dams suggested that these birds can utilize glucose through glycolysis more efficiently than the pullets from the normal dams. Since the normal sized heterozygous cockerels obtained from normal and dwarf dams were genotypically identical, significantly higher glucose concentration in the serum of cockerels from dwarf female may be a consequence of the maternal influe
