Residual tillage effects on the yield of BR-3 rice
1987
Rahman, S.M.
A split-plot design experiment with BR-3 rice was conducted in the grey floodplain soil of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) Farm in the same layout of the preceding wheat crop which had 4 tillage treatments namely (i) 7-8 cm deep tillage (ii) 15 cm deep tillage (iii) 22-23 cm deep tillage and (iv) 22-23 cm deep tillage practised in every alternate wheat season. The rice crop in the Aus season had normal cultivation by country plough to a depth of 7-8 cm. The tillage treatments performed in the layout of the preceding wheat crop showed significant effect on the grain and straw yield of rice. Grain and straw yield were increased by 20-24% (5.7-5.9 tons/ha) and 12-18% (7.9-8.3 tons/ha) respectively in deep tillage treatments of wheat over traditional ploughing to a depth of 7-8 cm.
