Correlation and path coefficient analysis for some characters in tomato
1988
Alam, M.S. | Ahmed, Q.N. | Ali, M.M.
The correlations and path coefficients between yield and seven other important characters were studied in nineteen varieties of tomato. The experiment was conducted to see the associations between yield and seven other important characters of tomato and also to see the direct and indirect contribution of each of these characters towards yield. Fruit yield showed positive and significant association with individual fruit weight and positive but insignificant association with dry matter content and plant height. It showed significant negative association with days to first flower and ascorbic acid content and insignificant negative association with days to first fruit maturity and number of fruits per plant. Path coefficient analysis indicated that the maximum direct contribution towards yield was through individual fruit weight followed by days to first fruit maturity and number of fruits per plant. Days to first flower, plant height, ascorbic acid content and dry matter content had negative direct effects on yield via majority of the characters.
