Gas chromatographic analysis of the whole cells of Pseudomonas mallei and pseudomallei

This paper reports the discrimination of 44 strains of Pseudomonas pseudomallei and 3 strains of P. mallei by the gas chromatographic analysis. Both the cellular fatty acid profiles and the pyrotytical fingerprint profiles, was decribed. Using the complete linkage cluster analysis, the interpretation of the pyrotytical gas chromatographic fingerprints of these bacteria was perfomed by a microcomputer. The resulting dendrogram showed relationship of these experimental species. Some of the unknown component peaks in the bacterial cellular fatty acid profiles were identified by an on-line GC/MS-computer system. The percentage content of the unsaturated stearic acid of P. mallei was 3.5 or more times as high as that of P. pseudomallei
