The performance of local and exotic cultivars of cowpeas using different planting time was evaluated. First planting was in June, and second in October when higher daily sunshine duration, higher temperatures, shorter daylength and rainfall occur. The exotic lines possessed higher number of seeds per pod and were generally free of pre-flowering disease symptoms. Cultivars TVX 1836-013J and TVX 1576 -O1E were the highest yielding in the first and second planting respectively. The local variety (Ex-Ada) had the largest mean seed weight
