The use of experimental mutagenesis to induce resistance to powdery mildew in barley

278 and 194 selected lines from local black barley and its hybrid with Arivat respectively were tested against powdery mildew under field conditions. From these lines, 83 and 131 lines proved to be stable. However, only 20 lines from local black barley and 8 lines from hybrid of local black barley X Arivat could be considered resistant to powdery mildew. Meanwhile, other M3 plants of bulky M2 seeds from both cultivars planted in the field were evaluated to powdery mildew as mentioned above. The percentages of resistant plants were 0.24-0.61% and 0.03-0.19% respectively in both cultivars
