A tissue culture attenuated rabies virus, ERA strain was cultured in several kinds of primary cells and cell lines, and these infected cells were examined for the presense of specific CPE induced by the virus. Of the tested, only BGK cells (cell line derived from black goat kidney) and GPK cells (cell line derived from guinea pig kidney) supported replication of the ERA virus showing characteristic CPE 7 days after inoculation. This phenomenon, the ability of ERA virus inducing CPE in BGK cells, was successfully adapted for the assay of the ERA vaccine. The highest titer of 10**7.0 TCID 50/ml of the virus was detected in BGK cells at 14 days post infection
