1987
Mane, A.M. (Mayondon, Los Banos, Laguna (Philippines))
With the extensive development of fishpen culture, total investment in Laguna de Bay [Philippines] has reached P1 billion. Fishpens occupy about 34,000 has. of the lake area and contribute about 130,000 tons to the lake's annual fish output. Employment beneficiaries number more than 100,000. About 80% of the bangus marketed and 23% of other fishes landed in Manila come from Laguna de Bay [Philippines] fishpens. Although the technology for pen culture is relatively developed refinement in engineering, fish handling, harvesting and marketing techniques are needed. Poor quality of materials, scarcity of fish seeds, overcrowding of pens, pilferage, and lack of financing are the major problems of fishpen culture.
