Crop production under corn-based cropping system [Philippines]

Results of tests conducted for two years at the Ilagan Experiment Station, Ilagan, Isabela [Philippines] revealed that sweet corn-bush sitao-corn/peanut and corn/mungbean-corn/mungbean are the most promising alternative cropping patterns in corn-based areas. Planting bush sitao immediately after mungbean should be avoided in the same manner as strip planting of upland rice and soybean during the wet season due to detrimental effect of one crop over the other. The inclusion of legumes in the cropping pattern maintained the soil fertility status of the soil in terms of organic matter, phosphorus and potassium content.
