The breeding work on a new mutant variety of red fox, was started in 1976. Till the end of 1980 the intensive reproduction of new variety without any selection was carried out. The number of females and males of the new variety amounted in 1981 to 62 and 113, resp., and in 1984 to 107 and 147 animals. The aim of selection was to increase the fertility, to correct colour type and fur traits of this new population
