Results of mechanical harvesting trials with the KTP I Harvester in Guyana
1985
Friday, N. (Guyana Sugar Corporation Ltd., Georgetown (Guyana))
Favourable and unfavourable characteristics of the harvester were described and discussed in the limited framework of the trial in which field layout and handling facilities were not specifically designed to accommodate the machine. Criteria examined were field efficiency, mechanical efficiency, system reliability, harvesting period, transport cycles, pick-up cane and extraneous matter content. Operational costs were $11.44/ton, 14.4 % higher than manual harvesting, and the machine was deemed unsuitable for conditions in Guyana due to excessive weight, low ground clearance, large turning circle, absence of a top cutter and large wheel centres not matching furrow spacing
