Preparation and ennobling of technical monoglycerides

The performed experiments have shown that technical monoglycerides with over 40 % of 1-monoglyceride content can be successfully prepared by glycerolysis and esterification using hydrogenated tallow with a high free fatty acid content. The change in the free fatty acid content during the process suggests that when using 0.3 % of NaOH as a catalyst addition of a smaller quantity of a technical monoglyceride quickens the achievement of balance. In that case the reaction time can be made shorter and the rate of blackening of a product can be made lower. The products contain over 5 % of free glycerol.
