The antibacterial properties of the oils of Nigella sativa were screened against 21 pathogenic bacteria of both gram-positive and gram negative strains. The volatile oil showed significant activity compared to that of ampicillin. Minimum inhibitory concentration of the volatile oil was also determined against five bacteria and the lowest was found against Bacillus polymyxa.
