A two-year field experiment with three nitrogen rates viz., N0, N40 and N80 Kg ha-1 and three decomposition periods of green manure viz., 10, 20 and 30 days after incorporation was undertaken to study their effects on yield and yield components. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Nitrogen a 10 Kg ha-1 gave the average yield (5.54 tha-1) identical with 80 kg ha-1 that gave the highest average yield (5-63 t/ha-1). Transplantation of aman rice after 30 days of green manure decomposition resulted the highest average yield (5.65 t/ha-1). Yield components in terms of number of effective tillers hill-1, number of grains panicle-1 and 1000 grain weight-all were imposed to some extent by additional nitrogen and extended decomposition period of green manure soil fertility in terms of organic matter and other major nutrients were also increased by green manuring
