Sodium azide treated induced mutants in blackgram [at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Ishurdi, Bangladesh]

Fourteen genotypes including 12 M5 mutants, the parental cultivar B-10 and the local cultivar Siberjot were put into a micro plot yield trial at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Ishurdi. Data on plant height, number of primary branches/plant, number of pods/plant, seed yield/plant and seed yield/plot were recorded. Statistical analysis revealed that the genotypes differed significantly among themselves in all the characters except number of primary branches/plant. These genotypes showed significant increase in number of pods/plant. The mutant M-37 produced the highest seed yield (1007.0 kg/ha) among the strains studied, on the basis of yield performance, eight mutants were selected for further evaluation.
