Factors influencing the efficacy of the hand-held electrostatic sprayer in cotton and soybean fields [Egypt]

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of flow rate, nozzle height and crop variety on the biological efficacy of cypermethrin 6% ED and Curacron 25% ED against the 4 th instar larvae of S. littoralis, as a test insect, by using the electrodyn hand-held sprayer. Results indicate that the best initial and residual efficacy was obtained from cypermethrin 6% Ed. Curacron 25% ED was significantly inferior to cypermethrin at all tested fasted factors. An increase in the low rate (nozzle size) of 0.5 to 1.0 L./ Fed. did not produce any increase in the biological efficacy of the tested insecticides, but inversely decreased significantly the biological efficacy of cypermethrin on cotton. Results also indicated that the biological efficacy of the tested compounds was negatively influenced by the nozzle hight of electrodyn sprayer. Moreover, on cotton leaves, charged electrostatic sprays gave better biological efficacy than on soyabean.
