Two field experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of five application times of nitrogen fertilizer on growth and yield and its components of three new wheat varieties (Sakha 8, Sakha 61 and Sakha 62). Single application of N before the first irrigation increased plant height, number of tillers/ plant, upper internode length, flag leaf area, number of spikes/ plant, of kernels/ spike, grain yield/ spike, grain yield per plant and per unit area, straw yield and grain ash percentage but decreased the 1000-grain weight and grain protein percentage compared with splitting nitrogen fertilizer into two or three doses.
