The effects of different packaging materials, basket or fibre bags lined with leaves (traditional methods) and polythene bags with or without sawdust, on the storage quality of colanuts under ambient and air-conditioned environments are compared. The traditional methods provided the best conditions for long-term storage by giving the highest proportion of marketable nuts and best taste qualities. Unperforated black polythene bag is a promising storage container but the use of sawdust in storage caused the colanuts to dry out and shrivel. No effect of storage temperature on the keeping qualities of the nuts was observed
