Screening of twenty-three varieties of soybean (Glycine max) for storability

23 varieties of soybean were subjected to hotwater and methanol pre-germination test to screen them for storability. 20% methanol stress was more effective than hotwater stress which had more than 80% germination. Only variety SJ2 had more than 80% germination for methanol stress, and had the highest % germinated seeds in both stresses. Low germination rates were recorded after 5 months storage under ambient conditions for all varieties
