The authors processed the data registered in the so called "Record sheet for boars' performance". Data registered in an above - and in a below - average pig unit (United H and G, resp.) were compared. In Unit H the 25 Hungarian Large White and the 21 Hungarian Landrace boars mounted 2966 and 1965 sows, resp. in the 32 month observation period. In Unit G the 25 Hungarian Large White and 33 Hungarian Landrace boars bred 3919 and 3966 sows of identical genotype within the 48 months of observation. During the summer months the rate of fertility decreased in both units, however at smaller extent in Unit H. The proportion of in-pig sows in Unit H and G was 70.8 and 61.5 per cent, resp. in the summer period. No appreciable differences were found between the units and genotype of boars in respect of number of mountings per month (5.8-5.9) and litter size at 1 day of age (9.1-9.2). Data of the analysis suggest that performance of boars is influenced by the season and by the quality of the pig unit.
