By using indicator plants (alfalfa, red clover, wheat, rye) the authors determined the copper, zinc and manganese content of feed plants produced on different soil types and also studied the degree of supplementation by determining the quantity of these elements in the hair, liver, rib and cerebrum samples. 24 per cent copper deficiency was found at national average. This proportion in animals kept on pasture may be even higher due to the sometimes low copper content of grasses. Rate of Zn-deficiency was found about 11 per cent. Increased Zn demand of high yielding cows deserves attention. Vegetation of the loess soil is especially poor in Mn. The deficiency is about 80 per cent at national average. Therefore supplementation is required except grassland keeping.
