Correlation analyses in sugar beet lines selected on the basis of leaf number

For the investigations the vegetation period was divided into three phases. Correlations were calculated between leaves developed in the various phases total number of developed leaves, total number of withered and fallen off leaves, leaf areas on lifting, computed withered leaf percentages, sugar contents and beet weights. Within the populations there was a closer correlation in the groups selected for many leaves. Between the withered leaf and sugar content there was a loose, negative correlation in the tetraploid population and a moderate negativ one in the diploid population. Between the withered leaf and beet weight there was a loose, negative correlation in both populations, the correlation, however, was not significant.
