Effect of chemical fertilizers on the nitrate-N content of meadow grasses

The author studied the effect of increasing amount of N-fertilizers on the nitrate-N content of meadow grasses (rye grass, rough cocksfoot, Hungarian brome-grass, meadow fescue) in different yields and period of development by 15 days in a period of 0-75 days. Nitrate content of the meadow grasses is different. The nitrate retention is greater in the middle and at the end of the breeding season and year effect also can be established. Increased nitrate concentration due to the unilateral use of N-fertilizers can be decreased by K-fertilizers. Rising amount of N-fertilizers may increase the nitrate content in the grasses over the toxic level. By suitable dispension of the N-fertilizers one can avoid formation of toxic levels of nitrate in the grasses. The nitrate-N per cent is the highest in the young, 15 days of age grasses, it is generally over 0.25 per cent and this concentration decreases by the age.
