Kingdom of Jordan marketing study: red meat
1989
Freeman, H.J.N. (EEC Awassi Sheep Improvement Project, Amman (Jordan))
The need to increase supplies of locally produced red meat are obvious and there are improvements in the present marketing system that can be made for the benefit of the farmer. On the other hand it is difficult to envisage that unless changes are made within the total spectrum of domestic meat marketing that any significant increases in availability of red meat from local resources can be forecast in the near future. The current activities designed to assist in this task are indeed helpful but until the small farmer becomes a larger farmer because it makes economic sense for him to expand his flocks and involve himself in fattening operations then it is unlikely that any significant impact will be made on the goal of increasing self-sufficiency in red meat production
