Influence of paclobutrazol on growth and yield of apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) cultivar Golden delicious [fruit quality parameters; vegetative growth parameters]
1988
Hattar, F.D.
The study was conducted during 1985, 1986 and 1987 growing seasons to determine the influence of paclobutrazol on the vegetative growth, fruit quality and fruit set of "Golden delicious" apple cultivar grafted on seedling rootstock in Bali'ma area. The trees were sprayed with different concentrations of paclobutrazol three weeks after petal fall stage and sprayed as split application at two weeks intervals. In 1985, the results showed that paclobutrazol application had no effect on fruit quality parameters, node number and internode length. However, paclobutrazol reduced the mean shoot length of "Golden delicious" cultivar when compared with the control treatments. The same results were obtained in 1986 growing season. In 1987, the results indicated that paclobutrazol treatments have no effect on the flowering date. However, paclobutrazol as soil drench or foliar sprays significantly affected fruit set, leaf size, chlorophyll a and b content of the leaves, and the vegetative growth of "Golden delicious" apple
