Several experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of Rhizobium japonicum strain R 214 on the nodulation and nitrogen fixation in soybeans at the three crop experiment stations located in Suwon, Iri and Milyang in 1986. R 214 was developed by co-works of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technilogy and Rural Development Administration, MAFF. The trials were carried out at the mature fields of three crop experiment stations. At the three soil types of the converted paddy field to upland, newly reclaimed upland amd mature field of the three crop experiment stations and four provincial RDAs in 1987, several experiments on the effect of nodulation and nitrogen fixation with the inoculation of the R 214 in soybeans also were conducted. Grain yields of soybeans inoculated with the R 214 increased by 23 Kg, 10 to 17 Kg and 7 to 20 Kg/10 a respectively, when compared to non-treated one in the converted paddy field to upland, the newly reclaimed upland and the mature field due to more nodulation and higher activities of nitrogen fixations. Particularly, the delaying of nodule senescence was recognized during the grain filling period from flowering time of the inoculated plants in the converted paddy fields to upland
