In order to study the effect of soil moisture at seeding operation on workability and grain yield of barley in the fine clayey paddy soil (Hwadong silt clay loam : Fine clayey, mixed, mesic family of Aquic Hapludalfs), barley seeding operation for high ridge cultivation was experimented by two-wheel tractor with 8HP at a field with several soil moisture grades artificially induced before seeding. The best workability was obtained at 28 % of soil moisture and reasonably workable soil moisture for seeding operation of high ridge broadcasting cultivation ranged from 25 to 30 % in the clayey soil tested. The low ratio of moulded surface area to whole area of the seeded ridge which was induced by poor workability under wet soil condition, was directly related with poor emergence of barley seed and finally resulted in grain yield reduction
