In order to establish year-round production methods of Perilla leaf, the present studies were conducted to investigate the effect of temperature and light on the growth of perilla leaf. The photosynthetic velocity was correlated with the temperature by 10deg C, almost constant from 10deg C to 25deg C and decreased above 25deg C. At green house, the growth of Perilla was decreased at the night temperature of below 10deg C. The growth was increased by one side ventilation, but decreased two side ventilation by low temperature, and closed green house by high-temperature at day time. Low temperature injuries appeared on 8, 4 and 2 hours after treatment of 3, 0deg C and -3deg C, respectively and freezing injuries appeared on 8 hours at -3deg C, and 4 hours at -4deg C
