Approach to integrated pest management in rice in Latin America
1987
Weber, G.
An analysis of present pest control methods in rice in Latin America indicates, that the situation is not acceptable from an economical, ecological and toxicological point of view. Therefore, an integrated pest management (IPM) concept has been developed which presently is in the stages of conformation, adaptation or demonstration in several countries. In Colombia insecticide applications can, for example be reduced by 90% using IPM. It is essential for the implementation of IPM to integrate it into the regional crop management concept. This can best be done by the development of a national rice production plan which helps to identify major constraints in crop production and leads to concentrate limited resources on the major constraints.
