Effect of fertilizing, planting density and sprouting on seed tuber health status [infection by PVY and PLRV]

In 1979-81 the experiments on the effect different nitrogen rates (40, 120 and 200 kg N per ha) on viruses infestation of tubers were carried out and in this experiments 7 cultivars were tested. In 1979-83 the effect of planting density on tubers health status was tested on 7 cultivars. For determination of the effect of PLRV and PVY on potato plants, seed potatoes health status was estimated on the ground of tuber indexing and field observations. In both experiments plants without presprouting showed greather infestation by PLRV. Infection PVY was slight. The influence of nitrogen rates was significantly differentiated and number of seed potatoes infected by PLRV increased proportionaly to rates. No interactions between cultivars and rates of fertilizing were proved. In experiment on planting density it was proved for all cultivars that infection by PLRV was higher when spacing of plants was increased
