By increasing the feeding level of highly productive cows during the prepartum and postpartum periods, milk production increased significantly during early lactation (75 days after calving). Intense feeding during the mentioned periods did not result in significant differences in the milk quantities, corrected according to milk fat content. By increasing the feeding level, better condition of healthy cows is achieved during early lactation. The higher feeding level, during the prepartum and postpartum periods, caused greater metabolic disorders.
