Hybrid vigor of naked seeded oil pumpkin, Cucurbita pepo L.

In order to study heterosis, 15 F1 hybrids of the naked seed oil pumpkin, obtained by crossing six inbred lines, were compared. Fruit weight, seed weight per fruit, seed yield per plant, 100 seed weight and seed oil content were measured. For all of the measured properties, except for 100 seed weight and percentage of oil seed, heterosis was quite outstanding compared to the parental average (H1). For the studied material, heredity of the measured properties was under the control of non-additive activity of the genes.
