[Nitrogen as a factor which increases sugarbeet yield and quality]

This work gives the results of a network of experiments, performed in the last three years on the territory of Vojvodina (Yugoslavia), regarding the effect nitrogen fertilizers has on sugarbeet crops. Results show quite different beet yields in different localities. Increasing the dose above 90 kg N/ha, did not cause a yield increase. Increasing the dose of nitrogen fertilizer, caused an increase in the yield of head leaves and the percentage of its share in the total yield. Sugar content decreased with an increase in the dose of nitrogen fertilizer in all localities. The share of sugar in beets decreases significantly under greater doses of nitrogen. Alpha amino nitrogen content increased proportionally.
