An experiment was conducted to evaluate the feeding behaviour of four improved mulberry varieties for five silkworm races viz., Nistari, Non Nung 7B, Nistid white, BSRI-801 and 05 under four seasons of commercial importance. Mulberry varieties were BM-1, BM-2, BM-3 and BSRM-4. Seven characters viz., hatchability, larval weight, cocoon weight, shell weight, shell ratio percentage, effective rate of rearing, length of filament were studied. Analysis of variance indicated significant variations due to mulberry varieties, silkworm races and also the seasons under consideration. The interactions between silkworm race x mulberry variety, silkworm race x season and mulberry variety x season were also found highly significant for all the characters. The highest cocoon weight and shell weight were obtained by feeding BM-1 variety followed by BM-3. Of the silkworm races, BSRI-801 showed the best performance over the four seasons. The rearing seasons, S1 (February-March) and S4 (October-November) were found to be relatively suitable for all the silkworm races.
