Effect of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrition on the yield and quality of onion seeds [in Bangladesh]

Application of nitrogen and phosphorus to a seed crop of onion at different levels caused significant variation in number of leaves and umbels produced per plant, number of flowers per umbel and the percentage of seed set. The yield as well as quality of the seed was also found to be influenced by the application of nitrogen and phosphorus. The highest yield of seed (529.7 kg/ha) was obtained from the plants receiving 200 kg each of N and P per hectare and the control plants yielded the lowest amount of seed (158.5 kg/ha).
