Effect of rhizobium inoculation on mungbean varieties as affected by chemical fertilizers

A field experiment at ARS, Barisal was conducted during Rabi season, 1989-90 to investigate the effect of Rhizobium inoculation in presence or absence of chemical fertilizers (TSP at 50 kg P(2)O(5)/ha M.P. at 30 kg K(2)O/ha and ammonium molybdate at 1 kg Mo/ha) as regards to nodulation, dry matter production and yield of two mungbean (Vigna radiata L.) cultivars (MB87 and 246) following split plot design with four replications. Rhizobium inoculant responded positively to both the varieties of Mungbean in recording nodule number and mass, dry matter production and grain and hay yield of the crop. Urea nitrogen did not show better performance as Rhizobium inoculant did in most cases. Due to inoculation the increase was 57% in effective nodule production, 77% in dry matter production, 64% in grain yield and 40% in hay yield over uninoculated control. The grain yield was more when chemical fertilizers applied with inoculum and maximum results were obtained when inoculum was applied with all the fertilizers together.
